Day 14: A hero that has let you down

I dont think I really have any heros.  I do tend to grow obsessions over people, randomly (not like stalker obsessions, more like crushes that propel me towards wanting to learn more about the person).  A few examples – Britney Spears, Jillian Michaels, Mila Kunis, Whitney Mixter, Maynard James Keenan…

Anyway, if I had to pick someone, as much as it pains me, thats who it would be, Maynard.  Not that he actually let me down, still love the him to death, and his music, but I did have a disappointing experience the last time we went to see Tool.  Toast and I have went to see them pretty much every time that they come through here.  The last time (and this was years ago now), the show wasnt great.  Dont get me wrong, I love being able to hear him sing live, but the show didnt feel like a typical Tool show, it felt like a whole lot of bells and whistles.  Like the band didnt really care to be there and it was all a big joke (of course I could be wrong but this was the impression that both Toast and I got).  The thing that really got to me though, was that they did an encore.  Never, had I ever seen them do an encore before, and I had read an interview with Maynard, that basically said he doesnt like to jerk off the audience, and they only do them when they feel that there was a really good connection going with the crowd.  There obviously wasnt this time, so that just made me feel even more like they didnt care to be there, and it was all a facade.  Anyway, thats enough of that, I really do love Tool, and Maynard, and I dont like speaking ill of them.
